I am really glad and grateful to have opportunity to learn Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in Science course for this semester. This is because this course allowed me to be exposed with several ICT applications. First application that been exposed to me is Interactive Smart Board. Thanks to the lecture and instructor for introduce me to this technology. Before this, I just heard my course mate describe about this board. But I do not have deep knowledge about it. I am quite excited when our instructor gave me chance to use this board during the lab session. For me smart board is really user friendly because it really help peoples especially educators to deliver the knowledge and information in an attractive way. It is not a waste if The Ministry of Malaysia Education supplies this kind of technology to each school in our country. It can attract the student’s attention and make learning fun since this smart board allowed the operation of macromedia flash application. So, student will have good understand regarding each topic.
At first it is quite difficult for me to use it because that board very sensitive. I need to ensure that my hand is not wet or sweating because the screen of smart board cannot detect the signal. Besides that, I must not move the board position by push it too hard since this will shift the position of the smart board slightly backward. I just need to calibrate it when the smart board did not function well. The instructor just showed to me and other class mates the basic technique of using smart board. I need to explore it by my own in order to master it. For me, I thought my group member and I did a good job in using the smart board for our first Problem Base Learning presentation about Smart School. We did some exploration through the Smart Notebook software and come out with great presentation slide. At least it is much-much better that power point slide that we usually prepared for class presentation.
I also did some reading about Smart Board. Smart Board is actually a series of interactive whiteboards that developed by Smart Technologies. The first Smart Board interactive whiteboard was introduced in 1991. Smart Board is an interactive white board that uses touch detection for user input like scrolling, right mouse-click that in the same way normal PC input devices, such as a mouse or keyboard, detect input. Then a projector is used to display a computer's video output on the interactive white board, which then acts as a large touch screen. The Smart Board interactive white board typically comes with four pens, which use digital ink and replace traditional white board markers.
Besides that, the Smart Board interactive white board operates as part of a system that includes the interactive white board, a computer, a projector and white boarding software called Smart Notebook collaborative learning software. We got this software from the instructor by order of our lecturer. So during ICT in Science lessons, all the presentation must be in Smart Board version. The components are connected wireless, via USB or serial cables. A projector connected to the computer displays the computer's desktop image on the interactive white board. The interactive white board accepts touch input from a finger, pen or other solid object. Each contact with the Smart Board interactive white board is interpreted as a left-click from the mouse. Smart Board interactive white boards are also available as a front-projection flat-panel display – interactive surfaces that fit over plasma or LCD display panels. Most Smart Board interactive white boards register only one touch at a time however, in June 2009. Smart Technologies introduced their first dual-touch interactive white board. The dual-touch Smart Board interactive white board accepts two simultaneous touches, however only on two separate sides of the interactive white board surface.
Generally smart Board makes my lessons more fun and interesting. Using avoid me from getting bored easily during lesson. That is what I thinks.
