Information and Communication Technology

I am quite familiar with the term Informative and Communication Technology (ICT) before attending the course SSI 3013 Informative and Communication Technology in Science for my fifth semester in UPSI. ICT is referring to the using of new invention of science application that can make make life easier. For example I can use my cell phone and personal computer with the access of internet to communicate with the person at the other place more easier and faster. But ICT have broaden meaning. It is not limited to that kind of situation only.

From my reading from a few of web sites, the term ICT was first used in 1997 by Dennis Stevenson. It is a general term that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunication (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary software, storage- and audio-visual systems, which enable users to create, access, store, transmit, and manipulate information. In addition, ICT consists of IT as well as telecommunications, broadcast media, all types of audio and video processing and transmission and network based control and monitoring functions. Besides that, ICT may refer to the merging (convergence) of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system.

ICT also can be used as a tool to make education more relevant and attractive. The term "E-learning" been introduce to shown to us one of the ways to applied ICT in education. It is referring to online learning or using Internet Browser to learn. Other ICT application also can be
used to make education process became more effective. For example data logger, spreadsheet,
interactive white board and other. I hope I can explore ICT applications as many as I could for
this course and get well-prepared to became an up-dated teacher with technologies for the future..
